Top 5 Coen Movies

Honorable Mentions: Raising Arizona, A Serious Man, O Brother Where Art Thou

5. True Grit (2010)

Marked by another great cast, magnificent cinemaphotography, and brilliant dialogue; True Grit scores big time. The Coen's do not produce a typical Hollywood story telling experience in True Grit. Other than the dialogue, the film is rather simple. The Coen's create great films through the way they depict stories and put it to film.

4. Miller's Crossing (1990)

An early film from the Coen's that showcased very raw directing. The characters within Miller's Crossing were very well developed and Turturro's performance was brilliant. The film executes its mission as a great gangster film, while still portraying the same type of dark humour synonymous with Coen movies. A must watch for any true Coen fan.

3. The Big Lebowski (1998)

"The Dude abides." The Big Lebowski is the funniest and most quotable Coen movie. The casting is absolutely ideal with big comedic performances from Buscemi, Bridges, and Goodman. One can tell that the brothers had a lot of fun masterminding this film. Dialogue is at its best and viewers will find themselves finding a new funny line every time they watch. I am a proud member of The Big Lebowski cult following and I must say, the love this movie has received from many is completely warranted. Yeah, well, that's just like your opinion man

2. No Country For Old Men (2007)

No Country For Old Men is one of the most widely appreciated Coen movies, having earned 8 nominations and 4 Golden Globe awards. It will take ten years for this film to receive the type of appreciation and respect it deserves from mindless critics, because that is any film's respect maturation date. Critics are often under the influence that older is always better. Although the film showcases no music and is predominately shot in an austere desert setting, it still possesses a beautiful cinematic style. Bardem's performance is a chilling one that found him a best performance Golden Globe award. Similar to older works like Fargo, No Country portrays astounding dialogue that creates for another humorous and witty, yet dark film.

1. Fargo (1996)

Fargo is a true American classic that provides the best depiction of the Coen's "story-telling" abilities. The film shows a very mature and extreme case of greed while possessing humorous qualities. The Coens also give an accurate account of the Northwest small town style of life; something unique and unknown to most movie-goers. Frances Mcdormand plays the role of a police officer, and epitomizes the classic literary and cinematic hero. Of all the brilliant Coen movies, the duo executed their purpose and goal most effectively throughout this movie.

STOP BOOING LEBRON!!!!!

Although 3 of the 4 guys who write this blog absolutely disagree with me, Lebron is a boss and the Heat are the shit. Following the Heat's astounding victory over the Lakers and Lebron's triple-double respect needs to be given where it is due. There have been a few arguments made against Lebron that have been debunked throughout the beginning of this season. I will address them now:

In Miami Lebron came in as Robin and D-Wade is Batman...

While there is no doubt that Miami is Wade County, Florida, Lebron's performance speaks for itself. Lebron is averaging 24 points, 7 assists, and 7 boards while Wade averages 24 points, 6 assists, and 4 boards. Anyone with a simple understanding of arithmetic could see this is a two man show.

Lebron cries too much

Washington Wizards

So when checking ESPN this morning I come across the Washington Wizards making it on the front page without it being about John Wall. So what else could it be about...Andre Blatche and Javeel McGee.  Now being from DC and being in the clubs every week guess who else I see out every time they are in town...these two fools...I am not surprised one bit that they finally were involved in an altercation outside of a club. What fools...the night before Christmas you are going to be out all hours in DC, and what do these fools expect...lets look at their schedule when they are in the DC area:

Sunday- Stadium (strip club and a dance club...not hating about this one at all)
Monday- Tattoo Bar
Tuesday- Lotus (Yes, my favorite, and yes they clearly pop more bottles than me...but on a Tuesday)
Wednesday- Josephines- probably the hottest party in the DC area.
Thursday- Park- enough said.
Friday/Saturday- Layla Lounge

Is it bad that me, an average guy can tell you where these fool swill be on every night of the week if they are in town? why don't you fools get into a gym and work on your game...because none of you have improved since last season...

Y$ out

Top 5 Movies of 2010

With 2011 coming quickly we decided to tell you what movies you need to see from 2010.

5. Toy Story 3

If you hate on this movie then fuck you. While Pixar makes the best animated movies each year, this is our generation's most recognized animated series. The main character Andy and his relationship with his toys portrayed how tough maturing can be for everyone.

4. The Social Network
It was unknown what we would get from a movie starring the guy in Zombieland, the new spider-man, and everybody's favorite white boy Justin Timberlake.  The Social Network gives us the story behind the most popular website in the United States.  In a redux of Revenge of the Nerds we see what can happen when exclusivity goes to far.  This movie shows that Wu-Tang was right...Cash Rules.

3. Shutter Island
Any movie that involves DiCaprio and Scorsese will be great.  This movie is based on the book by Dennis Lehane.  Lehane is also the author of Gone Baby Gone.  Scorsese also made this an homage to Alfred Hitchcock.  All of this and the fact that this mindfuck of a movie will keep your head spinning to the end makes it a must see.

2. The Town

Ben Affleck is relevant again.

1. Inception
Christopher Nolan has solidified his role as a boss of the movie industry. A thriller about dreaming could put someone to sleep, but Nolan is on-point in this dream within a dream. This is a great premise for a movie with a solid cast. Does the top fall over?? BWAHHHHHHHH

We have not seen True Grit and The Fighter
